Rogue Reignites her Savage Adventure: Exploring Love and Dinosaurs in the New Marvel Series

  • Sienna Granger

Rogue's adventurous summer in the Savage Land is back with an exciting new solo comic that revisits her past connection with Magneto. This storyline takes us back to a passionate relationship that existed amidst their explorations in the Savage Land. Marvel Comics is embracing the nostalgia of the early '90s era with Rogue: The Savage Land, a new limited series that follows the events depicted in X-Men '97.

The series, crafted by Tim Seeley and featuring the artistic talents of Zulema Lavina in her Marvel introduction, is set during the timeline of Uncanny X-Men #269-275, created by the iconic duo Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. Rogue: The Savage Land promises to explore Rogue's journey through a hidden realm that still hosts dinosaurs, ancient mammals, and other peculiar beings.

Marvel's official overview of Rogue: The Savage Land #1 invites readers to "Journey into the lost world with Rogue, Magneto, Ka-Zar and more!" The description highlights Rogue’s resilience, stating that without her mutant abilities, she will face challenges like never before. As conflict brews in the Savage Land, Rogue must leverage her skills to navigate encounters with dinosaurs, mutants, and even the Master of Magnetism.

Fans of X-Men '97 will recall that the secret romance between Rogue and Magneto became a significant storyline during the first season of the revived animated series, where Magneto managed to touch Rogue’s skin. Although the comic did not delve into such intimacy, Rogue's adventures in the Savage Land are cherished by many, particularly her striking jungle outfit, featured in the variant cover by artist Russell Dauterman, alongside the main cover by Kaare Andrews and another variant by Nick Bradshaw.

In discussing the series, Seeley expressed his enthusiasm for incorporating elements from '80s X-Men lore, the works of Jim Lee and Chris Claremont, along with Zabu, captivating characters, and the ultimate excitement of dinosaurs. He emphasized the aim to bring a fresh perspective while respectfully paying homage to the beloved and thrilling tales of a young Rogue with her unusual companions, Magneto and Ka-Zar.

Rogue: The Savage Land #1 is set to release on January 15 and will be a five-issue series. Additionally, Rogue remains a standout figure on the list of the best X-Men characters ever.
